The rooms were spacious, nice big balcony overlooking the pool. It was nice having a seperate bedroom for the kids. The kids really enjoyed having an onsite pool.
The windows/doors did nothing to cut out the sound from the waterfall and other guests in the pool. A toaster and Microwave would have increased the eating choices - families don't always want to eat out/can't always afford to eat out everyday! A minor grumble - they advertise Flybuys, but I wasn't asked for my card as I had the next part of the trip in mind I forgot to ask - so we missed out!
The bed was comfortable - not always an easy thing to find so was pleased with that.We were staying for the Jazz, Blues & roots festival and were rapt that many of the acts were playing at the Emerald. All others were at venues close by. Location is great, right on the cusp on the mariner with a lovely view.
There was no DVD facility in the room - we were hoping to sit out on the balcony and enjoy the view of the lake with some music in the background but were limited to the clock radio.
The convenience of the location and the size of the suite.
Hard to find the front door when new in town and on a busy, week day, there would be no parking nearby. All OK once one has registered.
The hotel was quiet, peaceful and had a relaxed atmosphere. We found the staff to be friendly and helpful. The evening menu in the restaurant offered a wide selection of dishes and wines and what we chose was beautifully cooked and presented. we will certainly use the hotel when next in Gisborne.
Looking at the pool and courtyard. Being on the main street but still close to parks and river. Clean lines in the room. Helpful staff. The Web site had said 2 beds in our room but there was only one in the room we were allocated, I was with my 15 year old daughter (There was just 2 of us) so this was not suitable. The reception staff saw the difficulty even before we went to the room and offered to re allocate rooms which we agreed to once we had seen the room with one bed.
I found the Carpark confusing. There was no door to the hotel from the 2nd level. On parking for the first time we took our bags into the Exit stairwell to go to the 1st level but found we could not re-enter so had to go to street level with our luggage and re-enter through the main gate - lug our bags back up the main ramp and enter the hotel from the 1st level. Then we had to go back up to the 2nd level of the hotel where our room was. This could have been better explained at reception.
The balcony and the view over the river and mountains was real nice. and a nice saltwater swimming-pool!
We had problem with the internet in our room, that could not be fixed in three nights! Noisy "local" neighbors at weekends?
Everything, the staff were love ly, security for your car, right down town,We did not eat in dining rooms as all our friends invited us out for all meals. We will go back again next time we visit Gisborne. Thanks Emerald Hotel you made our wekend very special.
Great service, friendly staff and I love the attention to detail in the rooms. Great service and food at the Grill.
Size of the room, the huge balcony, the power shower, bathrobes, great selection of in-room teas and coffees
A hotel restaurant that 'hardly ever' opens on Sundays is a poor do, considering the high price the hotel charges, and the fact that it is flagged as being open 7 days. Gisborne itself is no place to look for fine dining. Coffee shops that are mostly all shut by 4pm on a Saturday, and a so-called wine bar that closes at 5pm is bizarre. Getting out the hotel's 'guest' carpark may freak you out---it did me. It's on the upper storey and the ramp is almost vertical. I presume the lower floor carpark is for the comfort of hotel staff---guests can't access it.
My room was the noisiest roomi have ever stayed in ie right on the bend of a bypass road! Restaurant was fully booked for a function. Navigating corridors to rooms a nightmare (if there was a fire you would never find your wsy out).
Easy access to main street Very clean and tidy
I was staying with my Aunt and stayed there for three nights and found everynight we could hear through the walls the music thumping through the walls of the hotel! Thankfully we did stay a Sunday night and this wasn't so noisy that night but could still hear a bit of the thumping. This was the only fault we found with your hotel. But to be honest you could hear this walking towards our room, and we wouldn't stay there again, as we had a couple of sleepless nights.
When we booked it said that we would be getting Executive Suite with a balcony. On arrival we didn't get the balcony and were put in a room on the corner of a intersection and got no sleep due to the noisey procession of trucks going past from 1.00am through to 3.30am
Great location, very affordable and accommodating staff.
Our stay was pleasant and the hotel itself was comfortable.
The receptionist on duty at the time was not very friendly and not helpful. We even passed and said hello at times and she did not respond! also there could be more brochures and what to do in gisborne on display,we had to go to the information centre.
Minor leak in shower, smell from drain in bathroom
